Government run BC Cannabis latest to apply for licence for plans to operate in Prince Rupert

to provide retail cannabis in Prince Rupert

BC Cannabis is the next one up in the cannabis application line at Prince Rupert City Hall, with the government of BC owned cannabis retail shop seeking to share some space with the BC Liquor Store on Second Avenue West should they move ahead with their plans.

The application was filed this week with the City of Prince Rupert, which noted that the location falls within the zone that has been created by City Council for the establishment of such services.

The Prince Rupert plans which will make use of shared space, but stand alone facilities with the BC Liquor  Distribution Store will mark the third proposed cannabis location to show some forward momentum, with Council having already heard and forwarded applications for approval to the province for the High Culture shop on Park Avenue and Clarity Cannabis on Third Avenue West.

The subject of the Government run store locating in Prince Rupert was a topic for discussion at the January 28th Prince Rupert City Council session, when a member of the public inquired of Council if they had issued an invitation to BC Cannabis to consider Prince Rupert as one of its potential locations for operation.

It was noted at that time for the Council members, how the BC Cannabis locations would provide for well paying union jobs for the community if it chose to locate here.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch has already moved forward with their plans for a store in Terrace, set to open up in the Skeena Mall. That location, the first to make progress in Terrace, is expected to create up to 17 full and part time jobs once it opens sometime this summer or in the early fall.

As part of the City of Prince Rupert Notice, its noted that information on the Open Comment period for the application will be posted to the city website once it has been provided by the applicant.
