*** UPDATED *** Prince Rupert RCMP alert parents on attempted abduction on McClymont Trail as investigation launched

Update to case file at bottom of our original post:

The Prince Rupert detachment of the RCMP has issued an advisory for parents related to the McClymont Park area of the city, following a report of an attempted abduction of a middle school student this morning.

The RCMP notes that the incident which took place just before 8:30 AM involved someone attempting to grab the student who was walking through the park from the east side of the city on the way to PRMS on Ninth Avenue West.

No harm came to the student as a result of the incident.

Mounties are asking parents to ensure that their children do not walk through the area and for students to not travel alone.

Social media has been quick to respond to the incident, with parents of Prince Rupert Middle School and area elementary schools making note of phone calls received from the School District this afternoon to advise them of the incident.

Some parents however have expressed concern that both the School District and the RCMP did not release information earlier in the day to alert them to the situation.

The McClymont Trail travels east from the Civic Centre along the Creek branching off in two directions; one leading to 11th Avenue East, the other further along the Creek towards the Rushbrook Floats area of the city.

So far all that has been noted regarding the suspect is clothing described as a dark hoodie and black pants.
