The project which was announced in early March, will see the City of Prince Rupert collect derelict and nuisance cars in the community for a fee of 70 dollars, asking residents to voluntarily sign them over to the City.
To effect the clean up, the City has made arrangements with a scrap dealer to remove the vehicles in bulk.
To coordinate with the City on the pick up of your derelict vehicle you need to contact the Bylaw officer at 250-624-6852.
The desire to see the city address the growing nuisance car situation in the community has been a long term project for the second term councillor, who brought the project to the city's attention back in 2017.
The project was also the subject of inquiries by Councillor Cunningham last month, who had hoped to see the project expanded to the Industrial area, but so far it remains mostly directed towards the city's residential space.
Both Councillors have been strong advocates for the city to take charge of some of the unsightly elements of the city landscape.

Maybe if the City wasn't charging people $70 for the pleasure of recycling old cars - how much is the scrap dealer being paid per vehicle? - they wouldn't be having difficulty stirring up interest.
