June tees up as a busy, busy month for the Prince Rupert Golf Club

Staff at the Prince Rupert Golf Course are looking to jump right into a very busy June, with a number of projects coming together this month to put the place to the test.

Things will be hopping at the course by Friday as the always popular Ladies Jubilee gets underway this weekend, with a practice round set for Friday, followed by two days of Tournament play on Saturday and Sunday.

Prior to the start of three June showcase events, the Ladies will also take to the Course Tuesday for their weekly Ladies Day, which also will see the Cruise ship Silver Muse in port, offering a chance for the ocean travellers to test out some stable land for eighteen holes.

Wednesday is Men's Day and the opportunity for the Men to continue to work on their game in the lead up to the Men's Jubilee which takes place from June 15 to 16.

June serves up some highly entertaining

Prince Rupert Golf Course well into the summer
Wednesday also brings another Cruise ship the Sojourn into port and the prospect of more out of town visitors testing the challenges of Prince Rupert's Mountainside course.

Between the two vessels 1,000 people could come ashore in a 24 hour period, some maybe looking for a chance to take a leisurely stroll along the fairways and putting greens.

The third of three tournaments this month arrives on June 22nd and 23rd with the annual His and Hers event, another of the popular tourney's put on by the Club.

Those that hit the links this month will also be able to get their first glimpse at the new scorecards that are in use at the Prince Rupert Club.

Doug Kydd from the Golf Course offered up a short tutorial to the North Coast Review as to what to expect on the new cards.

The layout is very similar to the old card; but due to the significant changes in the positioning of the new teeing areas, our course was re-rated by Golf B.C. and those changes have resulted in new rating numbers for the men and the ladies for the various tees.

The new yardages are also indicated on the new card. The distance off the black tees remains the same at 5,890 yards. The distance off the gold tees was 5,515 yards and it is now 5,140 yards. The distance off the blue tees was 4,880 yards and that distance is now 4,350 yards.

Mr. Kydd also offered up the Club's appreciation to the 8 scorecard sponsors, whose names appear on each and every card and due to their sponsorship, the cards were produced at no cost to the Golf Club.

Stuck on Designs designed and produced the cards despite some very challenging times related to their forced relocation to Five Corners from their normal offices on McBride, that after a section of cliffside  descended on the back side of their operation.

Still despite, it all, the local print shop was able to deliver the new cards in time for the busy months ahead.
