Today marks the First Graduate Farewell under new name for Coast Mountain College

The First ever Convocation Day under the name of Coast Mountain College
takes place today at the Prince Rupert campus

It's somewhat of a history making day for the Prince Rupert Campus of Coast Mountain College, as the graduating class of 2019 receive their accolades, diplomas and awards at a ceremony today.

The time honoured event making for the First Graduates to receive their diplomas as students of the re-branded educational institution.

As you will recall Coast Mountain College was announced as the new name for the long established educational fixture in the region last year.

The new name for the former Northwest Community College was officially put in place in mid June of 2018, just a few days after last years graduating class of 2018 had made their walk of celebration and made their farewells.

At today's convocation ceremony, College officials, members of the Board, representatives from both municipal and provincial governments, as well as members from First Nations will all be on hand in the Prince Rupert Campus library.

Those gathered in attendance, will be assembled to celebrate the achievements for the graduates of 2019 as the diplomas and academic awards are handed out.

College President AND CEO Ken Burt will lead the delegation of Coast Mountain College officials at today's event, with elder Murray Smith on hand to provide for the greeting and MLA Jennifer Rice scheduled to deliver the keynote address for the gathering.

After the 1 PM event, the students, their families and friends and those of the official party will all gather in the multi-purpose room for the celebration of achievement and the completion of their studies.

Today's Prince Rupert ceremony makes for the first of three convocation events this month for Coast Mountain College students, with Smithers hosting their own regional ceremony tomorrow.

The larger convocation for Coast Mountain College will take place at Terrace's REM theatre on Thursday June 6th.
