A Special Committee of the British Columbia Legislature is continuing on with its work this Spring to study the BC Police Act and move on recommendations that will come following public consultation.
Some of that consultation is underway now, with the Committee calling for submission from the public to help guide it on its mission which as they note is:
Examining the role of police with respect to complex social issues; examining the scope of systemic racism within BC's police agencies; and ensuring consistency of a modernized Police Act with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
As part of this phase of their review, the Committee will review submissions with a view to inviting individuals and organizations to make virtual presentations at a later date.
The Committee also notes that as they move forward with their work there will be additional opportunities to participate and share input as the Committee's work proceeds.
To participate, you can access they submission process here, which included instructions and guidance towards how you deliver your comments towards the topic.
Towards that, the committee reminds participants that they should not include any confidential information in your submission.
