A special City Council Session called for Thursday, May 4th has charted the path forward for the City's 12.5% tax hike rate, with all but one of the Council members in attendance casting the affirmative vote.
As it was at the April 24th Council session, only Councillor Randhawa cast a vote against the increase, the Councillor having not been successful in his request that the City make use of money from the Legacy Fund towards some tax relief for residents of the community.
Councillor Skelton Morven was not in attendance for the Special Session, while Councillor Teri Forster participated by remote link, calling in during her vacation time.
Mayor Pond observed that the vote came following robust discussion at the 24th of April session.
"We've had robust discussions leading up to this point and Council has certainly authorized in the last meeting the increase of 12 and half percent, if there are no further comments or questions I will call the question"
The Council members had no additional comments to make towards the Taxation bylaw, providing for First, Second and Third Reading of the required bylaw.
The Five Year Financial Plan and Tax Bylaw will receive final reading at the next Regular Council session on Monday, May 8th.
The full fifty seconds to move the bylaw forward can be reviewed just after the 20 minute mark of the Video Archive for the Thursday Session.
