City relays some Bear Facts for Prince Rupert residents amidst recent sightings

Residents of the Sloan and Omenica area and adjacent streets are keeping
a watchful eye out for a bear making the rounds in search of food

The wandering bear of the westside that we may note of earlier this week has made for some additional attention from the City of Prince Rupert, with the city following up on its advisory for the west side of town yesterday with some more Bear Facts for the community to pawnder.

In a Social Media advisory this morning the City noted of the need to secure garbage to avoid any unwanted encounters, as well as a reminder that you should not be providing food for the visitors from the forests.

The message making from City Hall also includes some advice from the Conservation Officer Service of British Columbia which you can review here.

They also note of the need for residents to report encounters early, that to give CO's a wider range of response options. Conservation Officers currently have a trap set on a property on Sloan Avenue in hopes of  reigning in the wandering bear.

The Conservations Officer service hotline is available 24/7 at 1-877-952-7277

Follow the City's social media stream for any further updates on the quest to put some distance between the Bear and the West side.

More notes from City Hall can be reviewed through our Council Discussion archive.
