RCMP, Fire and Search Groups join forces seeking overdue mushroom picker on Haida Gwaii

The Daajing Giids Detachment of the RCMP have shared some details towards the efforts currently underway on Haida Gwaii, that as a large number of community assets seek to locate missing mushroom picker Richard Smith.

Smith who is 69 years in age, was reported missing on September 20th

Members of both the Daajing Giids and Masset detachments, assisted by the Old Masset Fire Department and Search and Rescue on the Islands have been searching an area near the Drill Main Forest Service Road since the report was made to the RCMP.

In an update from Thursday evening Sergeant Chris Manseau, Detachment Commander, Daajing Gids RCMP provided some notes on their work so far to locate the missing man.

"Members of the Old Masset Fire Department searched the area late into the evening, and have since returned early this morning. Search and Rescue volunteers are now on scene to assist with the search for Richard. The public is asked to remain out of the area of the Drill Main Forest Service Road while the search for Richard is ongoing"

Mr. Smith is a First Nations Man, he stands 5 foot, 7 inches (170 cm) and weighs 143 pounds (65 kg)
He  has black/greying hair and brown eyes
