The funding announcement from Wednesday will deliver the supports to Dawson Creek, Quesnel Terrace Kitimat, Fort St. John and Prince Rupert.
In the North Coast region, the North Coast Transition Society will be the host for two beds towards delivery of the addition support programs.
As part of the statement from the Wednesday announcement, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice observed of the expansion of services for the region.
“Expanding recovery services in northern B.C. is vital for those facing addiction challenges. By adding these beds across the North, we ensure individuals can stay in their community and access timely care. It reflects our commitment to meet people's needs where they are.”Ciro Panessa, the President and CEO for Northern Health also noted of how the added access to supports will benefit the Health Authority's service region.
“The toxic drug crisis has had a significant impact across the North. The need for enhanced and expanded access to support in our communities is very real and these new beds will help to ensure that we have those supports in place for people who need them. I am proud of the work that has gone into bringing these supportive recovery beds to our communities.”
The program operates under the guidance of Northern Health’s referral system, the beds will open doors for more people in their community to find the support and treatment they need.
To access these services, people can reach out to their primary-care provider, the mental-health and substance-use services in their community directly or to the supportive recovery service provider or online here.
