Blog Watching: Week ending September 24, 2023

A rather curious bear is making for much work for regional Conservation officers, with residents of the west side area around Sloan and Omineca making for a large volume of the recent sightings, as well as for  the largest volume of readers for our notes this week.

Wednesday saw a day of protest and counter protest across the nation, with many communities finding residents taking up their side of the debate over the Million March for Children, For Prince Rupert the numbers were much smaller for both compared to other communities, but the topic generated much controversy here as anywhere.

The popular Antiques and Collectibles business The Argosy, a ten year fixture in the community is making a shift in their business plans and that means the closure of their storefront operations in downtown Prince Rupert.

The weekend brought fundraising and socializing together has a good number of locals and those from out of town joined in on the day for the Harley Riders Toy Run which wrapped up with a dance at the Curling Club.

And Federal politics became a regional talking point for a few days this week, that following the recent visit of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, his visit to Smithers and Terrace leaving local party loyalists and those of the NDP with much to exchange ideas towards.

The top story of the week however, follows the travels of the wandering west side bear in the city.
