4th Avenue West Walkway users continue to wait for update

City Council had no update for September to share towards
repairs to the 4th Avenue Walkway/Stairce

A follow up report from a review in August on the status of the 4th Avenue Walkway condition didn't make it to the Agenda for Monday evening's Council session, that despite a request from the August session that Council hear more on what the options are to return the pedestrian pathway to service.

As we outlined following the August 28th Session, the topic of the plans towards the current status of the walkway was to be picked up at the September session.

The walkway/stairway had been the subject of past public interest through the summer, as well as for some conversation at the August session, that following a Memorandum for Council from Operations Director Richard Pucci, who noted that not all the information required had been assembled yet.

Something which provided for a hopeful request last month from Mayor Pond.

"So a reasonable likelihood there would be a report back to Council for the next council meeting" -- Mayor Herb Pond at the August 28th Council session

At that August session, Mr.  Pucci had advised that a report for September was something that would be provided.

However, even on a night light on topics for consideration,  the Agenda for September 11th session featured no follow up on the August talking points. 

And while the Operations Director was in attendance on the evening, none of the Council members seemed to remember that the topic was still an active file and one requiring more details for the public. 

Despite a council session that lasted only thirty minutes, twenty of which were taken up by a prevention from a representative from Ecotrust,  the topic never came up from the Councillors as a conversation piece and the Operations Manager was not called upon to offer up some notes on the issue of some concern for many residents.

The topic has also not been one of note for the city's social media stream, with no updates provided on the status of the access point to the downtown area provided through that portal.

The next opportunity for a public update on the Walkway issues will come on October 10th, when City Council hosts its next public session, one of five to come to reach end of the year.

Of note the walkway has been closed to the public since the start of this year, so an anniversary date isn't too far off in the distance for those in the immediate area.
