The only building left standing on the north side of the 800 block of Second West in the downtown core may soon have a new life |
An item on the Development Activity Report for August to be presented to City Council tonight offers up a note on a long standing fixture on the corner of 7th Street and Second Avenue West.
The listing among the twelve for the document is part of the Consent Agenda for this evening's Council Session. It notes of a proposed remodelling of an existing building to hold apartments and travellers accommodations, the proposal listed as in progress, would require a variance for parking and setbacks.
The building which is the last remaining structure on the block between 7th and 8th Street has had somewhat of a colourful recent past.
The location was once the scene of a home invasion investigation in 2022 and in a most ironic Prince Rupert moment, the former RCMP offices were once the host of a notorious illegal grow op in the downtown core in 2008.
What the scope of its next metamorphosis will be so far is known only to the owner and planning staff who compiled the report for Council to review tonight.
The wider overview of what may make for a new use for downtown fixture still to be revealed to the public as it works its way through the city's planning process.
