MLA's week, May 2-5, 2016

It was a fairly light week of public work for the North Coast MLA at the Legislature, with only one major issue of note raised by Jennifer Rice during the course of the weeks proceedings in Victoria.

Ms Rice was listed once in the archive of participants for the ten sessions of the Legislature, or for those listings related to work as part of House Committees from May 2-5.

During the course of the Question Period from Monday afternoon, the MLA raised some concerns related to the handling of issues related to the Banks Island mining closure, joining in with NDP MLA Norm MacDonald to seek some answers on the issues from Energy and  Mines Minister Bill Bennett.

Ms Rice is also a member of the Committee on Children and Youth, that Committee did not meet during the course of the last week.

Members of the Legislature return to work at the Legislature on Monday, May 9th.

This week also delivered some news out of the Northwest for local NDP members, with Skeena MLA Robin Austin announcing that he will not be seeking re-election for the northwest riding when British Columbians go to the polls in 2017.

As the election year gets closer, the North Coast NDP will be putting in motion their plans to retain the seat for the provincial party. Part of that process will get underway next week as the North Coast constituency association holds their Annual General Meeting at Prince Rupert's Fishermans' Hall.
