The local movement looking to bring Syrian Refugees to the North Coast will be expanding their efforts this weekend, hosting a Saturday Strawberry Tea and Art Revue to support sponsoring several Syrian refugee families.
The event takes place at the Fellowship Baptist Church at 651-- 7th Avenue East from 1 until 3 PM.
In addition to the Strawberry shortcake and tea, there will be entertainment for the afternoon with the Sweet Adelines, Peter Witherly and Frances and Sarah all lending their talents to the get together.
Tickets for the family friendly event are available for 10 dollars at Stuck-on-Designs or at the door.
As well, with the aftermath of the massive wildfires in the Fort McMurray area of the last week still on the minds of many on the North coast, a portion of the proceeds from the Saturday event will be donated towards the Alberta wildfire relief efforts.
Through the last week or so Prince Rupert residents have also taken advantage of the opportunity to make a donation towards the Alberta relief efforts through such locations around town as Canada Safeway and the BC Liquor store to name a few, or by way of online or texting options.
More on the plans for the Saturday Shortcake Tea and Art Revue can be found from the Facebook page created for the event.
Last month the Rupert Syrian Relief Support group hosted a very successful Cupcake Day event to raise money and awareness of their work, further background on the efforts of the local group can be found from their Facebook page.
