Haida Gwaii and Northwest communities to benefit from joint Provincial/Federal infrastructure funding

Funding is on the way for Masset and Old Masset on Haida Gwaii

Just over 1.2 million dollars will soon be put to work on Haida Gwaii as the British Columbia Government and Federal Government join up to provide a grant towards  continued safe drinking water into the future for the communities of Masset and Old Masset.

The announcement made today will see the money directed towards upgrades for the water treatment plant that supplies potable water to both Masset and Old Masset.

“This funding from the provincial and federal governments is an important investment in Haida Gwaii’s infrastructure. This upgrade will extend the life of Masset’s water treatment plant by decades, and ensure that it continues to supply high-quality water to the people that rely on it.” --North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice.

The funding from today was part of a roll out of combined federal/provincial money towards a number of projects in the province, the full list of note for other areas of the Northwest can be reviewed here.

The money is part of the the first intake of Community, Culture and Recreation and Rural & Northern Communities streams of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), a provincial-federal cost-sharing program that makes investments in community and green infrastructure.

The second intake of applications got underway on June 25th.
