Downtown Rubble pile remains discussion theme for local residents

With one final Prince Rupert Council session for 2020 coming up on Monday, Mayor Lee Brain and his council membership may want to take note of a building theme of commentary around the community, one which can be found as easily as a glance at the mayor's Social media page.

On Tuesday Mr. Brain shared a note on the current clean up of Diana Lake, a project led by the District of Port Edward and which the City of Prince Rupert has been participating in along with  BC Parks and Ridley Island. 

And while many were pleased to see the city's participation in that clean up, it's a mess that is a little closer to City Hall that has caught the attention of a few of the mayors other followers.

Those not focused on the recent fire site, also weighed in on a number of topics related to the visual appearance of the downtown core, seeking some guidance from Civic officials as to when some of the more troublesome properties will be addressed.

As we noted last week, City Council dipped a toe into themes of a Community clean up at their last session of November, though no one spoke to the large pile of rubble that remains in the city's downtown core.

At that session  the Mayor observed that many of the public's concerns on the state of downtown may be addressed should the city adopt the new Downtown Tax Exemption and Incentive plan currently set for a final reading next week.

Though it would appear that the public is looking for a bit more background on specific problems, particular that of the fire scene, as well as some guidance as to when actions will be taking place towards them.

Some perhaps will be tuned in to Monday's council session, in hopes of an update on the plan forward.
