Expansion of COVID measures now in place for Haida Gwaii

A pair of confirmed cases of COVID 19th for the north end of Haida Gwaii has given cause for an expansion of enforcement measures for the communities of the Islands, with both the Council of the Haida Nation and the Skidegate Band Council advising of concerns over COVID.

The travel restrictions between the communities are designed to reduce the risk of a larger outbreak of COVID which could overwhelm the Island hospitals.

For the Skidegate Band that means a two week curfew is now in place.

The measures went into effect as of January 29th and will continue for at least the next two weeks.

You can access updates on any future moves from the Skidegate Band Council Facebook page, as well as that of the Council of the Haida Nation.

While not putting in place any form of curfew or other measures at the moment, the Village of Masset has reinforced many of the prevention measures that all residents of British Columbia have been asked to follow in response to COVID.

More on their response can be found here.
