MP Taylor Bachrach challenged some of the Liberal government's recent measures on air travel, calling elements of the plans 'half measure's |
The recent moves by the Federal government to scale back the volume of international air travel in and out of Canada has not quite measured up for Skeena Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach, who took the government to task during Question Period on Monday.
Noting how the measures were slow to arrive and that flights have continued to arrive from known hot spots, Mr Bachrach noted that the Liberal government’s new travel restrictions are mainly 'half measures' that leave a lot of unanswered questions.
Among them: "Why are flights still arriving from hot spots for the new COVID variants? Why do the airlines’ voluntary flight suspensions to sun destinations not include flights to places like Florida?"
The further layers as the Minster of Transportation observed on in his reply, have been received with much confusion in recent days. And the key element of the suspension of Canadian based flights seems to have delivered a work around, with passengers who are so inclined to still travel, able to access flights through the US to regions now out of reach from Canada.
Something that would seem to reduce many of the measures that they hope to achieve.
