MLA Rice puts focus on Hospital themes from Premier Eby's recent visit to Prince Rupert

A shout out for Prince Rupert Regional Hospital and some notes on the recent visit to the North Coast by Premier David Eby made for some comments in the Legislature last week by North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice.

Ms. Rice used her time in Statements on Thursday for the tribute to Mr. Eby's journey north, the MLA noting of the many departments that the Premier had time to visit while at PRRH, as well as her own recent experience with the care from the Summit Avenue Hospital in Prince Rupert.

Among the stops that Ms. Rice called attention towards included: Emergency Department, various labs and service areas, kitchen staff, cleaning staff, Indigenous liaison worker, as well as his discussions with health officials at the facility.

The MLA also noting of the challenges to infrastructure at the hospital and some of the new equipment that is now in place at the Hospital.

The MLA while speaking with much enthusiasm on the Premier's time in Prince Rupert, did bury the lede as the newspaper business would say; actually, when we think about it ... it wasn't so much burying it, but to skip over it completely.

As part of his tour, in addition to the tour of the hospital the Premier was to take part in a fundraising event for the North Coast Constituency and to meet with some local officials.

One of those meetings, came on March 17th, when he announced funding of 65 million dollars for the city's water infrastructure issues, the celebration of the provincial funding coming as part of an event at the Museum of Northern British Columbia.

So caught up in her themes of health care, the speaking time for statements came to a conclusion before she could recount any of the Premier's other stops during his time in the city.

The full statement to the House can be reviewed below:

  1. Literally the first words of her post are “AS PART OF” the Premiers trip to PR.

Part: some but not all of something.

You’ve somehow turned a very positive update into a dumb attempt at a “gotcha” moment to try to make the MLA look bad.

No surprise though when one considers the volume of positive ink spilled on Ellis Ross.

    1. LOL, nice try at spin ... I don't seem to remember many people making mention of the Premier's time up visiting at the Hospital ... but 65 M in dollars, now that caught a few eyes and made some news around town.

As for coverage of Mr. Ross over Skeena way, he does provide lots to work with. As he is a frequent participant in some pretty strong and controversial topics in the Leg.

So I should ignore that work? NCR

    2. He/she/they who accuse so quickly accuse others of “spin” is unconsciously projecting upon another.

You just spun a social media post specifically about health care into accusing Jen Rice of somehow avoiding or forgetting about the water issue.

As the news media will recall (as well as her social channels)… she made plenty of public statements of thanks and appreciation about the $65 million.

And no, you should not ignore the work of Ellis Ross. But nobody fails to notice the complete lack of scrutiny he faces on this blog compared to Jen Rice. What could possibly be the explanation for that we wonder…..

    3. No, I just noted that the topic of the 65M dollars did not get a mention in her Legislature presentation ... didn't accuse the MLA of anything thanks.

Most of the coverage of the Skeena MLA is. basically recounting his statements in the Leg, and quoting his commentary as delivered in the Chamber ... so wonder what you will

    4. Will you ever cover Ellis Ross’ lack of comment on his former campaign co-chairs:

John Rustad - kicked out of party for denying climate change, now leader of BC Conservstives and endorsement of Pierre Polleever

Suzanne Anton - opposed to govt vaccination policies and endorsement of Danielle Smith

    5. If you're going to be a political pundit, best learn how to spell the name of the Federal Opposition leader it's Poilievre ... as for your question on the former co chair and now leader of the BC Conservatives ... catch up your reading material.

Thanks for stopping by, not sure you're doing MLA Rice any favours though with your approach here. NCR

  2. I don't see anything unusual in the MLA focusing on heath care and not mentioning the $65 million funding for city water infrastructure. They really don't have time for victory laps in the legislature (it's not like a city council).

I doubt that any member has been challenging the government about the water funding other than the Jen Rice and she would have been doing that from inside government, not from the floor of the legislature. Health care in contrast is an issue everywhere, and government members like her have to be getting out the message at every opportunity that the issue is taken seriously.
