Prince Rupert based Sheriffs among those honoured for outstanding service

The Provincial Government has continued with its salute to Law enforcement and Peace Officers this week celebrating the work of one hundred of the province's Sheriffs, having hosted an awards ceremony in Coquitlam in late April.

BC's Attorney General Niki Sharma, noted of the efforts of the Sheriffs Service in keeping the courts and the public safe.

“When people attend court, they are often under a lot of stress and the last thing they need to be concerned about is safety. These sheriffs have been going above and beyond the call of duty for many years to help make sure people in communities across B.C. can access the justice services they need safely.”

Two of the 100 that were honoured in April come from the Prince Rupert Court House

With Staff Sgt. Michael Ringer, Prince Rupert, 30 years (bar) and Deputy Sheriff Mark Hyland, Prince Rupert, 20 years both awarded Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medals and Bars by the Attorney General.

The Northern contingent of Award winners totalled ten from Service in Prince George, Terrace and Prince Rupert.

The Sheriffs awards of last month was the first in person ceremony in five years.
