The Federal NDP has put forward a motion towards reducing the impact of rising home heating costs, while still holding to their Climate Crisis goals, and taking the point position for the topic in the House on Tuesday was Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach.
Among the recommendations that the MP relayed in the House:
Removal of the GST from all home heating sources
Make it easier for Canadians to choose Clean forms of home heating, such as heat pumps
Finance the changes by putting in place a tax on excess profits of Oil and Gas corporations.
The MP made his case for his three recommendations as part of a ten minute presentation in the House on Tuesday.
The full introduction of the Opposition Motion towards reduced heating costs can be reviewed here.
It will be back up for Debate in the house during this current session, though it's not a binding motion and not considered a confidence motion towards the government.
So prospects towards its success appear to be in some question.
