Prince Rupert Physicians switch to tele-medicine for local patient appointments




Northern Health has just outlined how local doctors are approaching appointments with their patients during these days of COVID, with the Prince Rupert medical community now shifting towards a tele-medicine approach to appointments.

In a Post to the Northern Health Prince Rupert Facebook page, the new process during COVID health emergency is outlined:

All Prince Rupert physicians continue to work seeing patients by telemedicine. You can phone your GP to discuss your medical issues. If you have access to video chat, we do video chat visits. Some patients are emailing photos to their doctor to help diagnose their medical issues. For patients under specialist care, our specialists are offering telemedicine appointments as well.

Northern Health also advises that residents of the community should not go to Emergency for minor health related matters.

Please do not go to the emergency room for minor issues such as prescription refills, diaper rashes, etc. Due to the risk of COVID-19 transmission, we are saving the emergency room for serious emergencies only. Earaches, bladder infections, rashes, minor injuries, depression, anxiety, diabetes, asthma, etc., can often be dealt with by a phone call or video chat with your doctor.

Northern Health also outlines that for those who do not have a family doctor in the community, that they can access health information and advice by calling 8-1-1 for further guidance.
