Prince Rupert's Salmon Festival now among the list of the cancelled

The celebrations of the 2020 Salmon Festival at the Civic Centre are now
off, as organizers cancel this years event owing to the COVID-19 emergency

The roll out of the usual spring and summer festivals is OFF, as more and more community events organizers put out the Cancelled Event notices, that as the ongoing work towards reducing the risk of the COVID-19 virus continues.

Earlier today, we relayed the news of the cancellation of Prince Rupert's Seafest and Canada Day celebrations, and added onto that list is the 8th Annual Salmon Festival which was set to take place at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre on May 23rd.

The decision to cancel this years event was made public April 3rd and organizers shared the disappointing but understandable news through Facebook.

Noting the treasured participation of the many Nations in the annual event, organizers made not of the importance of protecting the health and safety of all of the communities in the region as their guiding theme.

Organizers had already been quite active in setting up this years event when the arrival of COVID-19 changed much of the way we live on the North Coast.

The note in the Facebook advisory that they will be looking forward to seeing everyone again for
Salmon Festival 2021 next May.
