Blog Watching: Week ending February 7, 2021

Some municipal notes dominated the reading list for the last seven days with our blog followers finding our articles on the soon to arrive City Utility bills and some progress on housing of much interest, those themes capturing three of our five top spots on the week.

The latter focused on two of our stories, the first on what appears to be some progress towards the municipal process for the 11th Avenue East apartment proposal.

As well, our notes on some renovations now underway at the Digby Towers clearly resonated in town, with a number of our readers taking note of the prospect of a renovated apartment building offering some housing options for the community.

COVID issues remained on the discussion list in town as well.

That as Northern Health relayed more sad news from Acropolis Manor with a number of additional passings, with ten residents of the long term care facility in Prince Rupert having now passed away from the virus or conditions related to it.

Northern Health also reported that as of Friday, thirty residents and twenty staff members had tested positive for the virus.

Rounding out the Top five was some news on the Industrial side of things, with a marine shipment terminal that perhaps few know even exists, looking to expand on its footprint in Prince Rupert's Industrial Park.

For the most read story however, a quest by one resident for a little relief from the water bill this year, quickly attracted a large readership through the week.

With City of Prince Rupert Utility Bills looming, a call from one resident for a discount on Water billing owing to the Boil Water Advisory -- With Prince Rupert moving into the six month of a boil water order owing to turbidity from the Shawatlans Drinking supply, one respondent to the Mayor's Facebook page is calling for some relief on the city's upcoming water bill, a topic that seemingly captured a fair bit of interest from our blog readers this week.    (posted February 3, 2021)

That article was followed by:

That as COVID19 cases increase at long term care facility -- It was another week of sad passages for Prince Rupert, with Northern Health providing a number of updates to track the path of the coronavirus at Acropolis Manor. In addition to the ten passings, the latest case count as of Friday was 30 residents and 20 staff members confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19. Work on Digby Tower a potential sign of some relief for the city's housing crunch; that as City Council makes note of housing as a priority for 2019 -- The long shuttered Digby Tower appears on the cusp of coming back to life to provide housing options in a tight real estate market.
