Prince Rupert Youth Soccer to offer Futsal Fridays starting in October

A new sports activity is on the horizon for the youth of Prince Rupert and area, with the Prince Rupert Youth Soccer Association set to launch Futsal Fridays, bringing the FIFA approved variation of the sport to the city.

With the launch next month, eighty Prince Rupert youth players will have the opportunity to play once a week indoors at Conrad Elementary for six weeks starting October 14th.

With Prince Rupert Youth Soccer having the shortest outdoor season in British Columbia. The Futsal Friday program will allow more opportunities to enjoy the game of soccer, but in an indoor environment.

The sport is played on a hard court surface marked by lines; walls or boards are not used. It is played with a smaller, harder, lower-bounce ball than soccer. The surface, ball and rules favour ball control and passing in small spaces. The game emphasizes control, improvisation, creativity and technique.

An introduction to the sport can be viewed from the YouTube video below:

Registration for the Futsal Program will take place through the PRYSA website and will open on October 1st.
