City of Prince Rupert adds bright yellow Bollards to McBride Street as traffic safety feature

With Road work complete along McBride Street, the City of Prince Rupert
has added a new safety feature to one of the city's busiest thoroughfares

Those travelling along McBride whether on foot or in a vehicle have by now noted a new addition to the streetscape for one of the city's busiest roadways, with the City of Prince Rupert introducing a one block stretch of bright yellow bollards on the eastern side of the street.

The bollards were put in place earlier this week and run along the block of McBride that stretches from Fourth Avenue East to Third Avenue East.

The North Coast Review contacted Veronika Stewart, Communications Manager for the City of Prince Rupert and in an email response, Ms. Stewart outlined the purpose for the installation of the traffic measure.

These bollard installations are a cost-effective measure that have been installed to prevent drivers from potentially driving onto/over the sidewalk in this area.

This measure was prescribed by a structural engineer to both protect drivers against the potential drop off on the other side of the sidewalk, and to prevent potential damage to the sidewalk from inappropriately-sized loads.

The communications Manager also noted that to this point she is not aware of any plans to add more of the bright yellow bollards to other areas of the city.
