Community Garden site makes for barren land after summer 2022 growing season

The landscape today at the corner of Second Avenue West and Third Street looks very different today compared to just a few weeks ago, after the site of the Ecotrust Canada led Community Garden was cleared out of all traces of the popular summer spot.

A few weeks back trucks pulled up to the location adjacent to the Ocean Centre and all of the planting boxes and the Greenhouse facility were removed from the location in a pretty quick project of exodus, leaving a pretty barren fenced in area behind.

By the accounts of their Social Media feed at Ecotrust, the summer season was another successful one, a season ending tour of the site offering up a look at the final days for their work.

Some follow up notes on the Ecotrust website provide a wider overview of their Kaien/Kxeen Island Urban Market program and what future they have in mind for it.

We've sent off a note to Ecotrust Canada to try to determine whether the departure from the Second Avenue West site is a permanent one or just a seasonal storage plan, as well as to hear more of what plans they may have for the venture moving forward.

Should we hear back, we'll offer up an update on what's ahead for the Urban Market and food program,.

More notes on Community themes can be explored from our archive page.
