Last week saw the Grand Opening for the new École Roosevelt Park School playground which was constructed last summer |
SD52 officials, those from Roosevelt School and a number of invited guests helped to celebrate the official opening of the new playground at École Roosevelt Park last week, the official ribbon cutting bringing all together to check out the latest in play area features.
The project was funded by a number of partners, including The Ministry of Education, Roosevelt PAC, SD52, Prince Rupert Port Authority, Ridley Terminals, DP World, Northern Savings Credit Union and BC Tire Stewardship.
The Rupert Schools social media feed features a video of the Grand Opening, as well as some photos from the Big Day.
The much anticipate project was completed over the summer months, we made note of some background related to the work at the time which is vailable for review here.
As was noted at the time, the new playground features several pieces of equipment that enable group play and offer children a range of different developmental opportunities.
Included on the site is: a We-Saw wheelchair-accessible see-saw that emphasizes motor planning; Curva and Saddle Spinners which support balance, equilibrium, and muscle tone; a Super Netplex which helps children focus on strategic planning and problem solving as they navigate up, down, and through the structure; and Oodle Swing which is designed to allow multiple children to play together at once.
Another significant addition is the rubberized play surface, which allows people using strollers or mobility aids such as walkers or wheelchairs to safely move around and access the equipment.
