Airplane incident closes Northwest Regional Airport

Travellers in and out of Terrace today have been a frustrated group for much of the day.

That after a Friday night incident which saw the nose gear of an arriving WestJet airplane partially collapse upon arrival, leaving the plane to rest on the runway in a location that has hampered flight operations.

None of the 42 passengers or 4 crew members aboard were reported injured as a result of the incident. Terrace is served by the Bombardier Q400 service.

According to the notes from the flight tracking service Flight Aware, the WestJet Flight had a late Gate Departure in Vancouver and arrived in Terrace at 9:06 PM

The first indication of the Friday night event came through social media which flagged the issue for those travelling to and from the region.

As a result of the incident the WestJet flight for Saturday was cancelled, as were Air Canada flights scheduled for the day.

In total, four flights were cancelled at the airport from late Friday  night through today. The delay in resolving the situation comes as the airport awaited the arrival of WestJet service technicians to assist in the move of the plane.

The Northwest Regional Airport Website offers no background on the Friday night incident, nor does it have any updates on the status of the airport.

According to the YVR Departures page, Air Canada Flight AC8242 is scheduled for departure at 5:25PM tonight.
