Fantasy play for 64 Rainmakers comes to an end with tough loss to 78 Nanaimo team

The fantasy run for the Prince Rupert Secondary 64' Rainmakers has come to an end, with the highly regarded team of near six decades ago coming just two points short of a Sweet Sixteen berth in the ongoing Draft competition playing out on line through the Varsity Letters blog.

On Friday, the Prince Rupert team ran into another top team from a different era in the Nanaimo Secondary Seniors of 1978.

And  in the eyes of those who are shepherding the Fantasy Draft to its finale in celebration of this years 75h Anniversary of the BC High School Basketball Championships, the Makers and Nanaimo would deliver an epic battle.

However, for those cheering on from the North, the Vancouver Island team would gain the upper hand to claim the 66-64 victory, moving on to see if destiny will be theirs in the weeks to come.

Some of our past notes on the Fantasy run can be reviewed below:

While the 64 Prince Rupert team now fades from view in the fantasy bracket competition, the tournament will continue through to March Madness in Langley, where if all comes together, the 2020 version of Rainmakers will make their own mark on the provincial scene.

And maybe, to bring things full circle, the current Makers' will bring home another banner to hang in the Charles Hays Gymnasium, a companion to the one claimed last season.

You can follow the current Makers from our Charles Hays archive page here.
