Blog Watching: Week ending February 9, 2020

The Prince Rupert Rampage made for the top talking point this week, as some hard fought battles at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre last weekend set the scene for the 2019 Playoffs which launched on Friday evening.

The fibre optic lines of the Northwest were running a little slower this week, that following a series of weather and technical events rendered some of the infrastructure that carries data and internet access to be somewhat slower than is the norm.

Coast Mountain College figured in the News in a number of areas this week, from a new program for the Prince Rupert Campus, to change at the local level and a familiar name taking on the top posts of President and CEO at the home base in Terrace.

The provincial teachers negotiations continue to move on at a glacial pace and this week found the BCTF which represents the provinces teachers outlining some of their concerns over the state of negotiations,  as well as some hints as to how things may unfold in the future.

And it's All Native Tournament week in Prince Rupert, the annual gathering of First Nations communities in the city, set to cheer on their home teams at the Basketball tournament, while taking in many of the off court events at the Civic Centre. Our Preview of the week ahead found a strong audience as the weekend arrived

However, the most read story of the week was all about the Rampage, how they finished off the regular season and where they are going for the first round of the CIHL playoffs.

Coast Mountain College to offer Harmonized Carpentry program in Prince Rupert in March -- Some strong interest in an upcoming program at the Prince Rupert campus for the college generated a large volume of reads this week, with interest growing over our notes from Friday as well. The first on an administrative change locally, the second of Friday focused on the confirmation of a President and CEO for the Terrace based educational institution.  (posted February 3 , 2020)

BCTF launches twitter info stream on themes of labour dispute  -- Our check in on Education at the School District level also found some interested readers this week, with a strong audience exploring our themes on some talking points that were released by the BCFT this week as they continued to express frustration at the pace of labour negotiations with the Province.   (posted February, 4 2020 )

Countdown to ANBT 62 Tip Off just days away -- One of the biggest weeks for the City of Prince Rupert is about to launch later today, as the Annual All Native Basketball Tournament celebrates its 61st edition, with tonight the focus for Opening Ceremonies and games for the next week at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.   (posted  February 6, 2020)
