Coast Mountain College appoints Justin Kohlman as new President and CEO

After a four month executive search, the Board of Governors of Coast Mountain College decided to stay close to home, announcing today that Justin Kohlman will take on the twin roles of President and CEO for the Northwest educational institution.

The announcement was released this afternoon, with Board Chair Nicole Halbauer noting the enthusiasm that the Board has for the five year appointment, which takes in effect immediately.

“Justin is student-focused, and embodies the Coast Mountain College DNA – he understands the people and the region and he has been instrumental in helping the College get on successful footing during the past five years. We are thrilled to announce that Justin is the successful applicant after conducting an in-depth hiring process for our new leader that included exceptional candidates from across Canada and around the world.”

Mr. Kohlman takes on the duties following the departure of President Ken Burt who announced back in July of 2019 of  his plans to leave the post by September of 2019.

The new CEO and President has been part of the Coast Mountain College leadership team since 2015.

He had been appointed to the position of Acting President in August of 2019.

In his first comments upon taking on the twin roles, Mr. Kohlman made note of the achievements of the college in the last five years and offered up a look at the focus for the years ahead.

“It is a privilege to be given this opportunity. My selection is a reflection of the great work of everyone at our college over these last five years. We have achieved so much in such a short amount of time. I’m confident that in the coming years, we’ll be even more effective in meeting the needs of our students, communities and Indigenous partners.”
