Junior Basketball in the spotlight this weekend, as CHSS Jr Boys host Northwest Zones



The path to a tournament berth in Langley later this month runs through Prince Rupert this weekend as the Charles Hays Junior Boy's Rainmakers host the Northwest Zones Tournament today, tomorrow and if required a Sunday finale.

Three teams are in town for the Zones, with the Rainmakers listed as the number one seed for tournament play, set to put the challenge to Kevin Sawka's squad are Caledonia from Terrace, Smithers Secondary and Hazelton Secondary.

Play got underway at 2PM Friday with the Rainmakers and Hazelton tipping off in the icebreaker for the weekend the first game in a schedule of up to seven games to determine the Northwest rep at Provincials.

The schedule for the double knock out tourney is as follows:

Friday, February 7

Game 1 - 2:00 PM -- Charles Hays vs Hazelton
Game 2 - 3:30 PM -- Caledonia vs Smithers
Game 3 - 7:30 PM -- Semi Final One -- Winner Game 1 vs  Winner Game 2

Saturday, February 8

Game 4 - 10:00 AM -- Loser of Game 1 vs Loser of Game 2
Game 5 - 1:00 PM -- Semi Final Two --  Winner of Game 4 vs Loser of Friday's Game 3 
Game 6 - 5:30 PM -- Final -- Winner 4 vs Winner 5

Sunday, February 9

Game 7 - 12 Noon ( TBD --Game if Necessary)



As part of a full weekend for basketball, the Senior Boys Rainmakers and Caledonia have a home and home series set, with the Charles Hays Gym to host the first game tonight starting at 6PM.

The Two teams then head for Terrace for Game two tomorrow with a 2 PM matchup at the Caledonia Gymnasium.
