City of Prince Rupert reinforces ways for residents to "avoid coming to City Hall"

Concerns over COVID-19 still seemingly remain high in the community following highly publicized outbreaks at Acropolis Manor and SD52; along with more closures of public spaces taking place the community, most recently that of the Prince Rupert Library

Perhaps reflecting some of those concerns, the City of Prince Rupert has once again reminded the public of the options available to reduce the need to make a trip to City Hall.

In a Facebook Post from Monday, the City highlighted some of those options particularly related to payment of bills and fees. Noting that if you must come to City Hall, you are asked to book an appointment wherever possible.

The policy of reduced access and need for appointments was introduced last year upon the arrival of COVID in Canada and concerns locally over the potential for spread.

Since then a range of other measures have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 situation, including some related to the City Council Sessions, which have excluded the public for a number of months now and now are conducted by remote means through a telephone call in version of civic governance.

  1. Waive credit card payment charges for utilities and property taxes.
Migrate to web services for as many city services as possible, give residents options so they don't have to enter the ivory tower.
City hall IT should be engaging citywest where possible to help with Zoom communication, web services and online payment options. six figure salary earners should be to offer up solutions for taxpayers.
