The east side of the city was the destination for a number of units of the Prince Rupert Fire Rescue Department on Wednesday afternoon, with the city's firefighters responding to  an alarm coming into the First Avenue West Fire Hall related towards a residential fire.

The PRFD outlined the details of the call for service through their social media feed on Wednesday evening..

The 4:36 PM fire call dispatched the Firefighters to a residence in  the 700 block of Eighth Avenue East.

The first arriving engine company encountered fire coming from the rear of the home.

Firefighters aggressively attacked the flames and were able to quickly knockdown the fire. Thankfully the fire was stopped before extending into the attic. Great work by all firefighters this afternoon.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature.

Also on hand for the call were multiple units of the RCMP who arrived on scene as well to assist with the situation.

As part of their review of the call, the PRFD has once again issued a reminder to residents that with the Holidays approaching home safety should be a priority.

Noting of the need practice your home fire escape plans and to test your smoke alarms around the house.
