The local Station for the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue is celebrating the achievement of one of their own this week, with Station 64 making note of the successful completion of some watercraft training for member Karina Dracott.

Ms. Dracott recently concluded training on the operation of Rigid Hull inflatable craft at a coast guard facility on Vancouver Island, which puts her on the way to becoming a Coxswain with the Prince Rupert Station.

You can review some of the training program required towards certification from the Bamfield base social media page.

Station 64 shared her success through their social media platform, which you can follow to keep up with events related to the local operations.

The Prince Rupert waterfront will be host to a special guest later this week as the Canadian Coast Guard vessel McIntyre Bay  ties up Wednesday at the Cow Bay Dock for public tours.

The McIntyre Bay is one of the newer lifeboat program vessels in place at Coast Guard facilities, we outlined some of the details to the vessel program back in 2018.

The public tour period  takes place Wednesday from 2:30 to 4PM, though the Coast Guard notes that the vessel is on standby for any emergency calls, and if such should happen it won't be at Cow Bay should duty call.
