McBride Street Sport Court work faces continued delays

The McBride Street Tennis courts await their makeover as part of

 It's been on the books for near four years now, with little progress to be seen to this point towards the reinvigoration of the McBride Street Tennis Courts,.  

The location one which was rechristened the McBride Street Sport Court in the 2019 Annual Report.

At the time the plans were hailed as an addition towards recreation options for the youth of the community. Though since that time, the pace of delivery on the project appears to have been a challenge for the city.

At Monday's Budget presentation CFO Corinne Bomben asked for a rollover of the project, hoping for progress it seems, perhaps for 2024.

"Another roll over request is for the resurfacing and fence reports for the McBride Street Sport court, this Project has been approved since 2020 and it's faced installation challenges. 

Staff have the materials on hand and will continue sourcing  a qualified installer. 

The cost is budgeted at 100,000 dollars with 65,000 funded from reserve and 35,000 dollars rollover surplus from surplus"

The timeline delay of near four years now, didn't seem to generate much interest from the councillors on hand for Monday's Budget presentation as to why it has taken so long towards a start and what the challenges have been to keep it from any forward momentum.

The project briefly saw some progress in 2022, with a Request For Proposal towards the work required.

Listed at the time for the work was resurfacing of the Tennis Courts, installation of new lines, nets and posts as well as aluminum benches, along with the introduction of a pickle ball court. 

The basketball court side of the recreation space was to receive a new surface as well, along with backboards, rims and netting.

Though considering the CFO's overview of Money,  that RFP deadline seemingly passed with no further activity to follow.

The mention of the Sport Court on Monday was the first update of sorts toward the proposal in a few years. Which probably suggests a bit more information should be requested by Council members towards the plans to let the community know when it may move forward.
