Road Construction and New Business ventures for the community among notes from Port Edward Council

Residents of Port Edward are heading into November with the prospect of the end of road construction in sight, the District offering up an update on the work which has been ongoing since the summer, as part of their November update .

Road construction and utility repairs are just about finished. We have finished paving Sunset. It looks great. Sidewalks will be done weather permitting. Oceanview is awaiting the finishing of the curbs and paving. The contractor will be sculpting the driveways before finishing up this job. Oceanview has all new sewer, storm sewer and water mains where necessary.

The District also provided some additional background to some new commercial ventures in the community, including a pair of businesses in service to the fishing industry.

Port Edward has attracted some new businesses this year. Ocean Trailers just opened a state-of-the-art trailer repair and leasing site. When fully operational they will have up to 10 employees.

Two other businesses both linked to fishing. North Delta Seafoods have established a new offloading site at the Port Edward Harbour Authority.

The facility is geared to working twelve months of the year and able to handle multiple species. Cold Fish has bought the old Grand Hale facility and will be custom processing various fish products. We wish them much success.

The District also provided a snapshot of some of their Council work through October.

Port Edward officials also noted that the final quarter of utility bills has been mailed out to residents, with payment due as of January 1s, 2024.

They also provided a look at their winter road maintenance program.

Winter is approaching! Public works is currently prepping our new plow to be ready for our first snow fall! A friendly reminder that Public Works will be out sanding or plowing as needed in the months to come, so please remove all vehicles, recreation vehicles, boats and trailers off of the District streets and boulevards.

The monthly review concludes with a reminder as to the District's Remembrance Day plans for November 11th at Lions Memorial park

The early start for Port Edward, allows residents and officials from the District to also attend the large
Fourth House ceremony in Prince Rupert at 11AM and take part in the social event at the Legion following.

The full newsletter can be reviewed here.

Not included in their newsletter but an item which we noted earlier this week, offer ups the prospect of more improvements to the commercial sector.

That as the District of Port Edward and Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society announced that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding towards redevelopment of the current General Store site.

The new structure  should it go ahead would offer a wider product selection for customers and incorporate he Port Edward Post Office into the new facility.

The District Council meets twice in November on the 14th and then on the 28th.
