Terrace airport expansion planning moves forward as call for Bids announced

With an anticipation that things are going to heat up in the Terrace/Kitimat economy over the next few years, the expansion plans for the Terrace airport are moving forward, with the Airport authority issuing a call for bids for two projects for the facility.

The two bid requests were posted to the BC Bid website at the end of November, opening up the application period for proponents looking to take on the Phase Two expansion of the Terminal, or the resurfacing of the airport aprons and taxi ways.

The airport expansion plans are the follow up to the successful debut of Phase One which took place in June of 2018, that saw an enlarged boarding lounge and increase in office space provided for the airport

Phase two will include the design work related to increasing space for the arrivals section of the airport, including designs for two baggage belts, an enlarged arrivals area, complete with a double man trap on the inside airside arrivals doors, enlarged washrooms, relocated administration and rental car offices, as well as a possible enlarged restaurant area.

The deadline for submissions is the first of February, with an anticipated contract award of March 15th.

The second project involves the asphalt rehabilitation of Taxi Area A and the main terminal apron, a project that has to fit into the growing schedule of the airport which currently features three scheduled airlines with operations from 6 AM to just after 11 PM

The Closing Date for submissions for the the paving project is January 15th, with the contract award to be announced on January 18th.

You can review the details for both projects from the BC Bid website.
