Approaching weekend storms set to deliver powerful punch to North Coast/Haida Gwaii

Satellite imagery shows the approaching systems heading
the Way of Haida Gwaii and the North Coast this weekend

The storm warning has already gone up for Haida Gwaii, with Environment Canada issuing the latest of Weather Warnings for the Islands earlier this morning, calling for winds of up to 120 km/h to develop by Saturday morning.

The weather service has yet to include Prince Rupert and the North Coast to the warning list, but the forecast does indicate much in the way of wind and rain is to come.

However, judging by the preparations of the local Marine Rescue station, it would seem to only be a matter of time. The Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 64 took to their Facebook page yesterday with the preview of the nasty weather to come, along with some advice for mariners as the weather approaches.

The City of Prince Rupert also has posted its own notice, piggy backing on the Rescue 54 posting to advise residents to make sure that all items around the house are secured.

As the storms approach, you can follow the updates from Environment Canada from their website.
