BC Ferries amends schedule ahead of oncoming weather system

BC Ferries it would seem is serving as our long range weather forecaster for the week, highlighting some approaching weather for Haida Gwaii and the North Coast.

At the moment there's no particular weather warning posted to the Environment Canada website, but with a notice posted today, the weather watchers at BC Ferries are making their preparations for some nasty weather heading our way.

On Monday, the Ferry Service posted a modified schedule for the Prince Rupert - Haida Gwaii run noting that the regularly scheduled sailing time for the Northern Expedition has been revised.

According to the new schedule, subject to any potential weather delays to come, the Skidegate departure of Tuesday will take place at 6 AM with arrival in Prince Rupert to be at 1 PM.

You can access further updates through the week from the BC Ferries Service Notices page of their website.

As for the approaching weather, the current forecast from Environment Canada calls for the winds to pick up after midnight, with Rain through the day Tuesday and for the rest of the week.  Winds on Tuesday are expected to come from the Southeast at 60 to 8 km/h.
