Just in time to work off some of those excess turkey pounds you may pack on this weekend, the City of Prince Rupert has announced that the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre will be reopened to the public on Tuesday, October 9th.

The announcement was shared with the public today through the city website and the Recreation Department Facebook page, with the pool and fitness area to resume their regular hours following the Thanksgiving weekend.

The City is excited to announce that our Aquatic Centre will be re-opening, with regular hours, on Tuesday, October 9! We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and we will see you back in the pools bright and early Tuesday.

The work on the renovations to the Aquatic centre began in July of this year, that after a contract award to Rupert Wood and Steel Construction.

The city outlined the timeline for the shutdown back in June, with Canada Day designated as the day that the pool wold close to the public, that after consultation with user groups for the facility.

The repairs that were to take place at the time were described as "legacy improvements" with extensive work required for replacement of the Hot Tub at the Pool, as well as other amenities in the facility.

It had originally been expected that the work would take up to the middle of this month, so the welcome announcement of today brings that timeline forward by a few days.

In anticipation of the opening, the Recreation Department has been posting notices of upcoming swim lessons for the this fall.

You can contact the Recreation Centre to learn more of the fall programs and general swim times for the Aquatic Centre at 250-624-6707
