Port of Prince Rupert launches public engagement process on future Land use planning

Have your say on the future for development of Port facilities with the
Port of Prince Rupert hosting an online survey and planning for
Open Houses in Port Edward and Prince Rupert this month

If you have some ideas or thoughts on how the Port of Prince Rupert should look in the future, the chance to share them with Port officials has arrived.

The Port has announced the first steps towards an update to the comprehensive Land Use Plan for the Prince Rupert waterfront and as part of that process they are now seeking your feedback through survey currently posted to the Port of Prince Rupert website.

Those taking the survey will be asked questions related to Community considerations, among some of the themes that participants are asked for are: thoughts on the positive and negative aspects of Port development over the last ten years as well as to what the Port should be aware of as it makes its decisions for the future.

The survey is just the start of the engagement plans, with two Open Houses scheduled for the third week of this month.

With the Port hosting a Port Edward session at the Community Hall on November 19th and one the following day on the 20th at the Port Interpretive Centre at the Atlin Terminal in Prince Rupert.

The feedback and contributions from the public will be part of the research required towards presenting a detailed land use plan that will focus on objectives and policies for the physical development of the property that the Port manages, holds or occupies.

The engagement process is be designed to help to create the replacement  document to the Land Use plan implemented in 2011, and while many of those elements remain valid, there have been some important changes to operating context and strategic direction since then.

The guidelines from the 2011 document were to last for a ten year timeline, something which has set the current consultation period for the Port forward.

It's anticipated that the Draft Land Use Plan update will be delivered in the Spring of 2020
