Change of plans means No Fall Qualifying play for 2020 All Native Basketball Tournament
Today should have been the third of four days of qualifying action for the 2020 All Native basketball tournament, which had been scheduled for November 20-23, however a trip down to the Civic Centre will find the Russell Gamble Auditorium a fairly empty place, that after a decision to not hold the annual fall qualifier.
The organizing committee made the decision earlier this month, advising that all teams that had paid to enter the Qualifying Tournament will now be issued invitations to the Big Show in February.
The move to skip the Qualifying event is indicated as to be in effect for this year only, with plans to reassess future plans following the ANBT event of 2020.
With the invites now delivered, the line up for the February tournament looks as follows:
The tournament will take place at Russel Gamble Gym and Arena at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre from February 9th to 15th.
Tournament organizers also note that they are giving some considering at an upgrade for the championship trophies that are awarded at the end of the annual event. They currently are considering the idea of having wood carvers submit designs that would highlight Indigenous culture.
More on that plan will be relayed in the months to come.
You can keep up to date on the road to the All Native tourney through the ANBT facebook page.
