Adverse Weather keeps Northern Expedition in Skidegate overnight

The vessel will be overnighting in Skidegate after BC Ferries announced
a delay to their schedule amid gale force wind conditions in Hecate Strait

The current Marine System rocking Hecate Strait and coming ashore in Prince Rupert is making for a travel headache for travellers on the Northern Expedition tonight.

With the anticipation of continued adverse weather for the region, BC Ferries has issued a Service Notice that advises of a delay for the scheduled 10 PM Thursday night sailing from Haida Gwaii to Prince Rupert, with the Northern Expedition to remain at dock in Skidegate until 2 PM on Friday.

That change in the schedule will also have an impact on the Friday sailing south from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy, with the Southern Journey now rescheduled to an 11:30 PM Friday departure.

The revised Schedule through to Sunday can be reviewed below:

Hecate Strait has seen a Gale Warning put in place for Tonight and Friday, with Winds from the Southeast up to 45 knots through much of the night and into Friday morning.

The winds will diminish and come from the  southwest at 20 to 30 knots by Friday evening.

You can review more details to the changes here,  the schedule revisions are subject to change depending on the state of the weather over the next 24 hours.

Follow the BC Ferries Service Notices for more updates, as well as the BC Ferries twitter feed for notes of interest.
