City seeks bids for Rushbrook Float replacement project

The floating dock at Rushbrook is one of the next civic projects on the
horizon for the City of Prince Rupert

The City of Prince Rupert has set in motion the process for a replacement float at the Rushbrook boat launch on the city's east side waterfront area. The current set of floats were constructed and installed in 1998 and over the years have become degraded, along with changing needs of those who make use of the facility.

Towards the new design, the City is looking for additional freeboard for easier loading, as well as to improve the safety of the structure and better protect it from wear and damage in the future.

The design for the work ahead from the City's Request for Bid
package posted to the BC Bid site

The Request for Bids for the work was posted to the BC Bid site on Thursday, with a deadline for submissions for proposals set for December 6th at 2PM.

From that point, the project award date is listed as December 13th, with the Float Construction to be completed by February 28th, 2020  and the float installation to be in place by March 14th of 2020.

Among some of the work required as part of the bid the city will be looking for the following:

Removal of the existing floats to a location to be specified by the city

Construction of the floats

Adjustment of existing abutment and grades

Removal of any interfering rock or debris below the float installation

Installation of the newly constructed floats adjacent to the Rushbrook boat launch

There is an optional Information meeting set to take place on November 13th at City Hall in the Development Services meeting room. At that time an overview of the project will be made, as well as a review of the RFP requirements and an overview of the background documentation.

The City's contact person for the RFP is Hans Seidemann, the Manager of Community Development.

Those interested in viewing the project in detail can access the City's file at the BC Bid site.
