Prince Rupert's curlers hit the road in quest for some pebbled ice

Some of Prince Rupert's curlers have taken to the highway to pursue the sport

With the Home Club closed until further notice, the truly dedicated of Prince Rupert's curlers are hitting the road to keep their skills sharp and to take in some of the other bonspiel and other opportunities offered in neighbouring communities of the Northwest.

A number of Prince Rupert curlers were in Terrace over the recent weekend for the Sherwood Brewhouse Funspiel, one of the early events for the Terrace curling season.

As we outlined in October the plans for the Prince Rupert Curling season came to a halt after new regulations now in place in BC meant that the Curling Club could not make use of the existing ice plant, which will now have to be replaced.

That is a fairly expensive proposition for the small club membership in the city, who are currently looking for funding opportunities to be able to make the necessary changes at the Seal Cove Facility to offer a return to the Roaring Game at some point in the future.

The Curling Club received some moral support from City Council in October, when the council members voted to provide a letter of support for the Club as part of their bid to seek out funding from the Northern Development Initiative Trust.

So far, there have been no updates on the status of their quest, or what other funding opportunities they may be looking towards.

You can keep up with any updates from the Club through their Facebook page.
