Ski Fever will Hit the Smithers slopes first this year, with Hudson Bay Mountain set for a November 22 opening |
The ski and snowboard enthusiasts of the Northwest are making their lists and checking it twice, all in anticipation of the first ski day of the season, with Smithers to be the destination later this month as Hudson Bay Mountain opens for the season.
The chance to hit the powder for the first run of the year will be well worth the four hour trip inland for Rupert's fanatical followers of the sport, with the weekend of November 22nd marked on the Hudson Bay Calendar as for three days of celebration!
As they get closer to opening day, those with itchy feet to hit the slopes can check things out with their daily Snow reports and webcam views of what conditions are like at Hudson Bay.
Updates on the Opening Day plans can be found from the Hudson Bay Mountain Facebook page.
A little closer to home, Shames Mountain continues to ramp up their preparation work for the 2019-20 ski season.
The staff of the ski hill located just west of Terrace, will be coming to Prince Rupert this weekend to take season's pass photos, with the photo session set for Cowpuccino's on Saturday from 2 to 4PM.
Saturday is photo day for Season's Pass holders for Shames Mountain, with Shames staff at Cowpuccino's from 2 to 4PM |
As well, the popular Powder Pig Jig will take place next weekend at Fishermen's Hall, with the doors to open at 9 PM on Saturday, November 16th. With the money raised from this years event to be put towards the work of the Prince Rupert Backcountry Society.
As for when Shames will be ready to welcome all to the slopes, that of course is dependent on Mother nature, so far the Shames staff haven't put up a target date for their first day for 2019-20.
Follow the Shames Facebook page or website for more notes on the season ahead.
