Consultation period on CBC licence renewals extended by CRTC

Those with a few things to say about the application for a licence renewal by Canada's public broadcaster will have an additional seven days to collect their thoughts and submit a presentation.

Last week the CRTC, which is overseeing the licence renewal process announced an extension until February 20th of their consultation period,  that as the Commission makes note of some additional reading material for those inclined to weigh in on the topic.

As we outlined in January, Canadians from coast to coast to coast can submit their comments by mail, fax or by way of an online comment form

You can get a sense of some of the commentary to this point through Interventions page of the CRTC page for the CBC Renewals

So far there have been 4.172 submissions made to the portal.

Both Television and Radio services are up for renewal, including the CBC's licence for its English service in British Columbia, which is host to the morning news and information Daybreak North in the Northwest.

The comments will form part of the narrative to the public hearings on the licence renewal set to start on May 24th in the Ottawa region.

For more notes on communication themes around the Northwest see our archive page here.
